Impulse response time aligns the audio signal at the listening position. Now I typically do the medium or wide measurements. It seemed very wrong, tight, and artificial. Initially I did the single person setup - fewest measurements with incorrect spacing. Honestly, and I heard this directly from Dirac engineer, the more measurement points, the better. Choosing the narrowest measurement setup (fewest measurements). The box around the main listening position should be a 3' cube, I go about 3-1/2'. First common mistake is not spreading measuring points far enough apart.
It takes a few passes to get Dirac measurements correct and gain an understanding of setup. How far are they away from the wall behind them? Looking for some input here on who can educate me on what impulse response is, and most importantly how do you fix something like this?įirst, how close is your speaker to the side wall?ĭo you have room to move it 2-3' away from the wall? Maybe some early reflections on the right cause the mic to register audio much faster than the left, and then adjusts delay so both arrive at the same time? But in doing so, messed up the image? However, when I look at the impulse response and the correction applied - my hypothesis is this is the culprit, but I don't really know this stuff at all. The measured curves from DL all look typical from what I can tell. However turning off DL puts the image squarely in the center. Adjusting balance to the right did little to make a different. Every single curve yielded a far left image.

The right speaker is unfortunately in a corner boundary, while the left speakers have no side boundary and open into my kitchen (great room setup).Īfter running calibration ensuring speaker output was the same, I ran through the series of measurements, added a few curves, and sat down to enjoy/play with the sound. Using NAD M33 and UMIK1 microphone (horizontal facing towards center of the speakers).
